How to increase your likelihood of a promotion

I have been getting a lot of emails lately about being passed over for a promotion or feeling invisible and seeing no signs of advancement.

I have to admit, it has been a while, actually 20 years, since I was working for someone else. So, I had to give this one some thought.

One thing I realized is that it was almost all women who were emailing about this challenge. That sparked my thinking around some of our communication tendencies along gender lines.

One of my frequent sayings is “Get in front of your communications.”

Sometimes we assume people know what we are thinking or what we want. But the truth is, they are likely not thinking about us at all. We need to help put our goals and accomplishments in the front of their mind.

There is always something you can do to be more visible and stand out from the crowd. Start by getting clear on what you want and who has the influence to make it happen.

Listen to this weeks Success Shortie — Gaining Visibility to find out how you can be more proactive.

And don’t forget to simply ask for what you want!

I hope everyone took a moment yesterday on Memorial Day to remember, honor, and appreciate those who served and protected our country with their lives.
